Privacy Policy
Effective and last updated:
This Privacy Policy explains how the Playbook Games team (“Playbook,” “we,” or “us”) handles information when you use playbook.games and its card-scanning features, creation tools, games, and related online services (the “Service”).
For parents and guardians: Playbook includes activities for children. Access to restricted features is approved by our team, and children’s participation is arranged directly with parents or guardians. Please read Children’s privacy and parental choices below and contact us about your child’s access.
1. Information the Service handles
- Account information. If you sign in with Google, Google and Firebase handle authentication and can receive and store your name, email address, profile image, unique user ID, and sign-in details. We use account identifiers and approved email addresses to manage access. We do not use your Google profile name or image as your in-game identity, and we do not receive your Google password. Attempting sign-in can create an authentication record even if you are not approved to use restricted features.
- Cards and creations. We process scanned or entered card identifiers, builds and edits you save, and associated information such as update times and the ID of the account making a change.
- Game and multiplayer information. Online play can process account and session identifiers, selected builds and their creation titles, scores, movement, and other game state needed to run a session. Games identify players using creation titles or generic labels such as “Player 1,” rather than Google profile names.
- Technical and usage information. Our hosting and technology providers may process IP addresses, browser and device information, pages requested, referring pages, timestamps, and diagnostic data. Google Analytics collects information about visits and interactions. Our editor also sends events such as card scans and session engagement, and can associate those events with a Firebase user ID.
- Communications. If you or a parent contacts us, we receive the email address and any information included in the message, such as questions, feedback, or account-access arrangements.
Please do not include sensitive information, home addresses, phone numbers, or other people’s personal information in shared creations or feedback unless it is needed to resolve your request.
2. Camera access and card scanning
Card scanning requests permission to use your device’s camera. The current scanner reads camera frames in your browser to recognize card codes; it does not upload or store the camera feed on Playbook’s servers. The resulting card identifier is used to retrieve the relevant content and may be included in usage events. You can deny or revoke camera access in your browser or device settings, although camera scanning will then be unavailable.
3. How we use information
We use information to authenticate participants, manage approved access, retrieve cards, save and display creations, run games and multiplayer sessions, respond to parents and other users, maintain security, troubleshoot problems, and understand and improve the Service. We may also use information as needed to comply with legal obligations and address misuse.
4. When information is shared
- Technology providers. We use Google services, including Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Firebase Realtime Database, and Google Analytics, for sign-in, data storage, online sessions, and usage measurement. Hosting providers and providers of externally loaded fonts and software also receive the technical information necessary to deliver those resources.
- Other participants and visitors. Creation titles, generic player labels, selected builds, and game state can be visible to other participants or spectators in an online session. Shared card content can be viewed by people with the relevant access. Creations included in the public featured gallery are visible to website visitors. Do not assume that a shared card code or an online game session is a private communication channel.
- Legal and safety needs. We may disclose information when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect people, address fraud or security threats, or enforce our Terms.
- Changes to the Service’s operator. Information may be transferred as part of a merger, acquisition, or transfer of the Service, subject to applicable law and any required notice or consent.
Google’s handling of information is described in its Privacy Policy and Firebase privacy information. Links to other websites are subject to those websites’ own privacy practices.
5. Cookies, browser storage, and analytics
The Service and its providers use cookies and similar browser storage for authentication, preferences, local game records, and analytics. Google Analytics uses identifiers to measure visits and interactions. These uses mean usage data is not necessarily anonymous.
You can manage or delete cookies and local storage through your browser settings. Blocking storage may affect sign-in or other features, and deleting local storage can erase preferences or local records. Google also offers a Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on for supported browsers. This policy does not replace consent where consent is required for cookies or other processing.
6. Children’s privacy and parental choices
Playbook is intended for players and families, including children under 13. Our team arranges children’s access to restricted features directly with parents or guardians. Parents should review the information practices above, supervise participation, and contact us before arranging a child’s account access or online participation.
The categories of information and providers described above can also be involved when a child uses the Service. Games use creation titles or generic player labels, and account identifiers can be associated with saved creations and analytics events. Please avoid using a child’s full name or other identifying information in creation titles or other content intended for sharing.
Where applicable law requires direct parental notice and verifiable parental consent, those steps are required before collecting, using, or sharing a child’s personal information, unless a legal exception applies. This policy, a Google sign-in, a camera permission, or ordinary acceptance of the Terms is not a substitute for those steps.
A parent or guardian can email pbkgametester@gmail.com to:
- Ask about the information collected from their child and request to review it.
- Request deletion of their child’s personal information.
- Withdraw consent or refuse further collection or use of their child’s information.
- Discuss limits on sharing and which features require information to work.
We may need to verify the requester’s identity and parental relationship before disclosing or deleting information. Stopping collection or deleting information may prevent use of features that need that information. If you believe information about a child was collected without the necessary permission, contact us so we can investigate and address it.
7. Retention and security
We retain account and saved-creation information as needed to provide access and keep creations available, communications as needed to handle requests, and technical information as needed to operate, secure, and improve the Service or meet legal obligations. Retention depends on the type of record, the feature, and the provider’s settings. Contact us to request deletion or ask about a particular record.
Children’s personal information must be limited to what is reasonably necessary for the activity and retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for its specific purpose, rather than indefinitely. Parents can request deletion using the contact above.
Access controls and provider security features help protect information, but no online service, transmission, or storage method can guarantee complete security. Please keep account credentials and private card codes secure.
8. Your choices and privacy rights
You can choose not to sign in, stop using the Service, revoke camera permission, and manage browser storage. Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information, restrict or object to certain uses, withdraw consent, or complain to a privacy regulator. Contact pbkgametester@gmail.com to make a request. We may need to verify your identity and will respond as required by applicable law. Deleting your Google account or browser storage does not by itself delete records held by Playbook.
9. International processing and policy updates
Our providers may process or store information in countries other than where you live, including the United States. Applicable privacy requirements and protections may differ between countries.
We may update this policy as our features and practices change. We will post the revised policy here with an updated date and provide additional notice or obtain consent, including parental consent, when required. Continued use alone does not replace legally required consent.
